Saturday November26, 2011. California State Championships, Woodward Park, Fresno, CA Senior Lindsay Gray began the day for Clovis High by passing 24 runners over the final 3/4 of a mile to finish 68th with a time of 19:17. She finishes her high school career as the 6th fastest harrier in school history. The boys team finished 19th, with Junior Corey Matteson (55th, 16:11) lead the way with Senior Ryan Phillips (98th, 16:39), Freshman Connor Morello (127th, 16:52), Junior Ryan Walker (138th, 16:59), and Senior Brian Exline (162, 17:17) finishing out the scoring. Phillips and Exline end their high school cross country careers with the 7th and 12th best CHS career performances, respectively.
Thursday November 10, 2011. Central Section Championships, Woodward Park, Fresno, CA The Boys team worked hard through adversity to secure a berth in the California State Championships by finishing 3rd. Corey Matteson and Ryan Phillips led the team with 8th and 10th place finishes to earn All Valley honors. The girls team finished 4th today, missing the chance to run at the State Meet by finishing 7 points behind 3rd place Clovis East. Lindsay Gray (19:09) is the lone State Meet qualifier for the Lady Cougars after finishing 8th and earning All Valley status.
Friday November 4, 2011. TRAC Championships, Woodward Park, Fresno, CA Although the scores may seem to show otherwise, the Cougar Cross Country teams ran very well today. Led by Junior Corey Matteson's 7th place finish in 16:10, the boys raced to a second place as they surged late to overtake a very good Clovis North team. Holly Wilson led a fantastic performance by the entire girls team as she finished 8th in 19:15. The girls finished 5th, with 5 of the top seven girls running lifetime bests on the 5K course. results
Thursday October 27, 2011. John Seaman Invitational, Kingsburg Gun Club, Kingsburg, CA... The Cougars had a very good showing today, with the Boys team taking third place behind Buchanan and Madera South. Their team time of 79:18 was the result of a 25 second gap from 1st through 5th. Corey Matteson led the team with his 9th place finish in 15:37. Also running strong were Ryan Walker (15:49), Paul DeDios (15:54), Brian Exline (15:55), and Ryan Phillips (16:02). The girls team was led by Lindsay Gray, who ran tough down the stretch to finish 7th with a time of 18:50. Most of the girls varsity team ran in the Frosh Soph division, and the Cougars placed 2nd with a strong 1-2 finish by Freshman Holly Wilson (19:06) and Sophomore Ani Walker (19:14). Jennifer Buettner (20:22), Morgan Thaxter (20:50) and Breanna Berry (21:00) rounded out the scoring. Friday October 21. Clovis North Twilight Invitational, Clovis North High School The inaugural Twilight Invitational provided a great setting for some fast running by the Cougars. The Boys took second place by running a team time of 49:01 on the two mile course. The team spread was 13 seconds, with Ryan Phillips leading the way with a 9:39 under the Lights on the Clovis North campus. The Girls posted a time of 60:27 to finish fourth. Ani Walker led the team with an 11:45.
Saturday October 8. Clovis Invitational, Woodward Park, Fresno, CA... The host Cougars had their first chance of the season to compete at Woodward Park. The boys team faced a tough test in the Championship Boys race, and ended up with a 19th place finish. Corey Matteson (16:17, 53rd) is now tied for 24th on the all time Clovis High performance list. The girls team placed 15th in the Division 1 race, with Lindsay Gray (19:53, 37th) leading the way for Clovis. Friday Sep 30. Golden West Invitational, Cutler Park, Visalia, CA... The girls team finished in 5th place overall, with senior Lindsay Gray gutting out a 10th place finish through illness. Her time of 20:14 led the Cougars on the 5K course. The boys sat three athletes, and still ran well enough to finish 4th overall. Corey Matteson (14th, 17:04) led the Cougars. Friday Sep 23rd. Mt Whitney Invitational, Mooney Grove Park, Visalia, CA... Mooney Grove's fast asphalt and dirt course provided a nice backdrop for a fantastic day for the Cougar teams. The boys won the team title with a 43 - 84 win over Buchanan and 20 other teams. Junior Corey Matteson led the way, finishing 4th overall with a time of 15:03 on the 2.91 mile flat course. Teammates Paul DeDios (6th, 15:06), Jacob Russo (7th, 15:11), Brian Exline (8th, 15:12), and Connor Morello (18th, 15:29) provided the performances needed to cap off the victory...The girls finished fourth behind strong performances by Freshman Holly Wilson (5th, 18:22), Senior Lindsay Gray and Sophomore Ani Walker crossed the line in 10th and 11th, respectively, in 18:42. The Cougars next run Sept. 30th at the Golden West Invitational. Stevenson Invitational. Saturday, Sep 17th... The Cougars traveled to Pebble Beach to compete in the Stevenson Invitational. Led by Brian Exline and Ryan Walker, the boys team finished a close third (42:51) behind Wilcox and Gunn in the 5x 1.6 mile relay format. The Girls team finished .2 seconds (51:55) ahead of Valley Christian to take 1st place. The race culminated in a thrilling elbow to elbow duel of anchor runners, eventually won by senior Lindsay Gray.
Wed. Aug 24th...First quality Tempo day in the heat. Cougars are looking pretty good...and tired. Watermelon run on Saturday was a success, with three Cougars finishing in the top 10!
Tues, Aug 16th...Great track workout today! Getting ready for the Watermelon run at CSU Fresno this Saturday.
Tuesday, Aug 9th...Ran Mammoth Rock trail, then had a great ice bath in the creek! Looking forward to Ultimate this afternoon, and Mammoth Mountain Summit Run tomorrow! ----------------
